The current deployment of ADSL
lines grows up day by day. Next application is
VoIP where the user receives an Integrated
Access Device to make everything and Video over
IP is also coming. For those kind of application
a normal ‘sniffer’ over Ethernet is practically
un-useable!
The solution to this problem is the new xDSL
Monitor. The xDSL Monitor provides a
cost-effective in-line xDSL Protocol Analyzer
for trouble-shooting xDSL line installations and
developing and testing xDSL equipment. With the
optional 3Play Quality pack you can improve your
testing with VoIP and IPTV services quality
analysis for a full 3Play deployment.
This is an xDSL monitor to be inserted between
the Central Office (DSLAM side) and the customer
premise (CPE side). The plug and play monitor
follows the xDSL Monitor family policy where an
hardware probe captures the relevant details of
the line and the optional software package
decodes it. All the packets are stored with its
timestamp for later analysis, if the external pc
is connected, it is possible to make a live
capture and analysis of the traffic. The xDSL
Monitor plugs directly into the xDSL line to be
analyzed, connected in circuit between the DSL
Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) and an xDSL modem (CPE).
The xDSL Monitor provides a powerful protocol
analysis capability for use in capturing,
decoding and displaying all the AAL5 packets
that are transmitted in both directions across
an xDSL line. Its features make it a device
smart to use and an ideal companion for the xDSL
technicians, called for troubleshooting or SLA
maintaining.
In fact the ATU-R emulation provides a valid aid
to exclude possible problems of the user's modem
while the xDSL link operation data gives a
detailed overview on the present status of the
connection and allow an aimed and quick
intervention. The link conditions can be
furthermore monitored through the graphical
display of the DMT bits per tone allocation in
order to discover possible noises or
interference signals.
The xDSL Monitor consists of a
Probe chassis with one plug for Test Interface
Modules (TIM) emulating the CPE and one for the
TIM simulating the DSLAM. Each TIM module
support different technologies and are used for
the connection from the CPE and the DSLAM. The
Probe captures all the traffic on the line for
both downstream and upstream directions and
stores it on its own memory and it sends the
data to a connected PC for a long term recording
via standard 10/100BT Ethernet. The embedded
processor cards feature an advanced
communications microcontroller, ROM, RAM and
FLASH memory. The user interface for this system
is established over the Recording PC via the
Ethernet connection. A simple, intuitive
Protocol Analysis Graphical User Interface (GUI)
runs on the Recording PC for analysis and quick
setup of xDSL line and ATM PVCs parameters.
